Fougères - Druid Stones

Departure

The departure coordinates are those of the parking lot just a few meters from the Cordon des Druides. Once you've parked, follow the sign for "Cordon des Druides."
Pay close attention to the stones as you walk.

The Cordon des Druides

The Cordon des Druides is an interesting series of quartz blocs that continues for over 300 meters along the road, but only the northern portion is easily seen. It's a megalithic monument. The stones are all quartz, in contrast to the region's covered chambers (dolmens) which are all granite. This series culminates in a massive block, situated exactly at the peak of a ridge line. There are about 23 easy-to-spot stones.

1st Milestone: Cordon des Druides
1st Riddle: What is the approximate height of the tallest stone in this alignment? The answer to the first riddle will be the letter A in the final coordinates.

• if the answer is less than 1 m, A = 1

• if the answer is about 2 m, A = 2

• if the answer is over 3 m, A = 3

When you have your answer, go back to the parking. Cross the road carefully and take the hiking trails directed by the sign "Promenade de la Pierre Enfouie" (road of the buried rock).You will then begin a one hour long walk.

2nd Milestone: The Cellars of Landéan

Walk until you reach The Cellars of Landéan. This place has a rich history : the legends tell that Raoul II, Baron of Fougères have burried his treasures during the Anglo-Norman invasion, from 1166 to 1173.

2nd Riddle: Count the steps that lead to the Cellars. This answer will give you the B letter in the final coordinates.

• If the answer is approximately 5 steps, then B = 0
• If the answer is approximately 12 steps, then B = 1
• If the answer is approximately 20 steps, than B = 2

Write down that number.

Continue walking along the path, to the forest path juste behind the Cellars. With a few meters walk, catch up the "Promenade de la Pierre Enfouie".

3rd Riddle : At the next big crossroad, count the number of picnic tables. Double this number and you will have C.

You answered all the riddles ; now you can take on the task of finding the cache. Just replace the letters below with the answers to the riddles above to find the coordinates of the final cache.

You can take several paths to the final cache, depending on wether you travel by car, foot, or bicycle. Be careful and be sure to take the path recommended for your vehicule.
