Saint-Malo - Solidor Tower in Saint-Servan

The hunt for this cache will lead you through one of the most historically rich areas of Saint-Malo. Saint-Servan is actually a separate former commune that was joined to the city of Saint-Malo in 1967, at the same time as the former commune of Paramé.

Departure

A small parking lot awaits motorized geocachers at the foot of the Solidor Tower. But the site is perfect for exploring on foot. To start, go to 48°38.040N 002°01.557W.

The Site

An imposing fortified keep composed of three towers linked by short curtains (walls that connect two towers) rises high above the Rance River. The Solidor Tower provided a means for its sponsor - John V, Duke of Brittany - to keep the rebellious city of Saint-Malo under his thumb by controlling the Rance. The tower was subsequently turned into a prison. Today it holds a museum on long-distance navigation and Breton explorers of Cape Horn.

The Cache

Leave the crowds behind (especially necessary in the summer) and tramp down to the foot of the fortifications.
Your evasion will surely lead you to the cache.
